November/December 2015

We had much to be thankful for in November. In some of the third grade classes, the students learned about what life was like as a Pilgrim. The children also shared their family culture. It was wonderful learning so many things about our Manatee Bay families.

In other classes, students did their first STEM projects and learned about the engineering design process.  The students had a blast building towers out of Oreo cookies.

The students are working hard in math. As we work on division it is important that the children know their multiplication facts. Please continue to practice each night at home.

We are looking forward to a relaxing holiday break. It is great to have some time to spend with our families and friends. We know how important our families are and want to thank all of our wonderful parents for their dedication to their children’s education. We appreciate your constant help and support. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful group of parents and children.

Enjoy your holidays!  We wish you a very happy and healthy New Year.

October Newsletter

Wonderful Families of 3rd Graders !

October was a busy month practicing our multiplication tables.  Please continue to encourage and help your children learn their facts at a rapid response rate.  It will be so helpful for them and allow them to learn division very easily.  We are addressing many reading standards so please continue to monitor your children to ensure that they are reading and taking their AR quizzes to enhance their reading education.  The Boosterthon was a success and we thank you for coming out and supporting your children and our school.  Engineering for Kids allowed the kids to practice the design method for engineering and launch a straw rocket.  They thoroughly enjoyed their experience!  We had a great week celebrating drug awareness and keeping our bodies healthy, not to mention a focus on colleges and thinking about our futures with so many great schools to choose from.  Thank you parents for all you do to help us teach your chldren.

September Newsletter

Wow!  We are Superheroes in 3rd grade!

The children had an awesome first month of school getting reacquainted with old friends and making new friends. We learned many facts about Constitution Day! In math, most of the classes finished Chapter 1.  The testing format is very rigorous, something the students are not familiar with yet. Please practice addition and multiplication facts daily. Within the next few months, the goal should be to answer any fact in one second.  A 50 problem timed test should take less than one minute. All students should have a daily quiet reading time at home.  Students have the opportunity to take an AR test on the books they have read.  I-Ready is available to help students with math and reading skills. The curriculum is differentiated based on a diagnostic test taken in school. The username is their 10 digit number and the password is their birthday without the slashes.  Make sure you check backpacks and agendas on a regular basis. Please see our third grade web site for additional information.

May 2015

The 2014-2015 school year has gone by so quickly!  With your support and help, we have had a successful year.  Now that we are approaching the final stretch, the students are getting ready 4th grade.  By now, your child should have memorized the 0-12 times tables.  If they continue to struggle, please help him/her memorize them before the next school year.

We are looking forward to our fun and educational field trip to the Kennedy Space Center on May 21st.  The students will learn about space and will be eating lunch with an astronaut.  Another fun-filled day we are planning for is our end of the year celebration, which will be on June 1st.

REMINDER OF IMPORTANT MEETING

We are going to be conducting a brief parent meeting at 6:00 PM on Monday, May 18th in the cafeteria to review any and all pertinent information for the trip.  If you have any questions, then you may ask them at that time.

February 2015

Hello Third Grade Families – We’ve had a busy, fun and exciting month.  Third grade field day was a huge success.  The kids had a blast!  Thank you to all of the parents who participated in this amazing event.  We had a great time at on our field trip to the Museum of Discovery and Science. We saw the IMAX 3D movie Tiny Giants.  The students watched a special live science presentation on Matter.  They loved watching the presenter work with liquid nitrogen and fire!  Loud cheers were heard throughout the museum's theater.   We were able to tour the current exhibits on display including some of the museum’s rides.  I know that it was a memorable trip for all students that attended.

Testing, testing, testing!  That is the word on everyone’s mind.  We are working hard to help prepare your children for the FSA testing that begins the week of March 30th.  To help better prepare your child, please have your student complete i-ready reading and math lessons at home daily.  Read with your child.  Practice telling time and ask questions with elapsed time.  Make sure that your child has mastered all of their times tables.

We will continue to work very hard in preparation of the upcoming FSA testing.  Thank you so much for all of your continued support in your child's education.
