December 2016

Hi Third Grade Parents and Families -

It's amazing how fast time has flown to know we are closing out another year and welcoming a new one in 2017.  The children have had many opportunities during this holiday season to learn about giving back to others and helping those less fortunate in our communities through the food and toy drives, as well as Caps for Cancer.  Our 3rd graders have been working very hard covering the required standards through the portfolio curriculum and learning about and celebrating different cultures.  Some classes even researched and reported about their own special heritage with the various customs and traditions. For fun, the students enjoyed festive winter holiday celebrations and the Bay's traditional Polar Express Day in our jammies.

Please continue to have your children practicing to memorize all of their times tables and be able to relate these facts to division.  Relexmath.com is a great website to utilize if your child is struggling with fluency.  Also, our IReady requirement for reading is now aa minimum of 45 minutes per week so we greatly appreciate your assistance in allowing them time online.

As we return from Winter Break, please be aware that the 2nd round of BAS testing will be underway to hopefully see reading progress and growth in your child's ability to read and comprehend.  Also, the mid year IReady reading diagnostic will be administered to also help determine if growth and progress is being made.  Please encourage your child to give their best effort when taking the diagnostic test, as IReady can be used as promotion criteria in the event that they do not pass the FSA test in March.

From the entire 3rd grade team - we wish you a very healthy and Happy New Year for 2017!

November 2016

We have been super busy with many fun activities in third grade. We had college and career day with our favorite college teams! We celebrated Red Ribbon Week with silly socks to show how we are drug free. We also had a great time dressing up as our favorite literary characters. We have so much to be thankful in this November. Enjoy the holiday with your families.

September/October 2016

The children had an awesome first month of school getting reacquainted with old friends and making new friends. We have learned so many new things.

The testing format is very rigorous, something the students are not familiar with yet. Please practice addition and multiplication facts daily. They must have multiplication facts memorized, timed test will be given regularly.

All students should have a daily quiet reading time at home.  Students have the opportunity to take an AR test on the books they have read.  I-Ready is available online to help students with reading skills. Tenmarks is also available  online for math.  Your child should have their user name and passwords where they can access them.

Make sure you check backpacks and agendas on a regular basis. Also please go over any work sent home with your child to review with them.

We want to thank our wonderful parents for all of their help and support as we prepare the children to be lifelong learners.

April/May 2016

April rain brings sprinkles of knowledge,
To show the learning throughout the year,
Our superheroes have shown their power,
They’ve proven to have no fear!!

Manatee Bay’s spectacular third graders have opened up their creative minds and let their knowledge flourish this year!  From poetry to science and math to writing, they’ve worked incredibly hard on becoming highly skilled.

This month all third graders will take the ELA and Math FSA standardized test. Once again, our teachers feel extremely confident that our superheroes are prepared to conquer and persevere! We are so proud of all of their hard work!

Our student’s endless determination and firm efforts continue to establish an environment of creativity and originality. Fourth quarter brings exciting STEM projects, thrilling novels, reader’s theater plays, and so much more! It also brings the opportunity to extend our knowledge and apply it through classroom simulations.

In addition, there are many fantastic themes taking place this month. Students will continue expressing and sharing their strong opinions through writing and exploring the marvelous mysteries of the Sun, Stars, and Outer space, while also learning about the remarkable planet we live on, Earth!! To conclude this unit of study, many of our third graders will journey to Kennedy Space Center on a field trip later this quarter where they can continue to SHOOT FOR THE MOON! The third grade teachers are looking forward to a fantastic ending to the year!
